Elevate your design skills to a level you never thought was achievable
Combining modern positive psychology and industry-leading design practices, Scott Riley will teach you to really understand how humans work and explore problem spaces with empathy, curiosity, and accountability to push your overall design skills beyond the next level.
Understanding typography, colour, space and flow are fundamental in producing great design work, but that’s only half of the story. Before you get to that part, you need to understand the humans you are designing for.
In this course, we’ll go through key theories and pivotal studies around how the human mind works. We’ll explore how our brains handle attention, distraction, vision, perception, learning, memory, predictability, surprise, motivation and self-determination; as well as how we can design better experiences based on these new understandings.
In the second part of the course, we’ll bring everything together and follow along a complete, real world design process. From research and scribbles, all the way through to final prototypes, you’ll learn how to conduct and manage a full-stack design project. Along the way, you’ll learn effective communication and project management strategies, lightweight and repeatable research approaches, how to maximise your sketching and wireframe stages, and the key concepts that power good, accessible, well-balanced design work.
This is an in-depth course, designed to be taken at your own pace and could easily be the focus of an entire semester of study. Take your time with it, let the ideas breathe, and get to work!
While those of us working in tech are being pushed towards speed and automation more than ever before, Mindful Design offers a refreshing invitation to slow down and reflect.
Scott’s book is a beautifully-written reminder that well-designed products are not exploitative, but work instead to give choices and encourage individual agency. I just know his course is going to be even better.
Mindful Design brings a fresh perspective to digital product design with practical advice grounded in neuroscience and psychology. If you’re serious about designing accessible products that meet the needs of real people, this book is a must-read.
Taking Mindful Design felt like an antidote to all the coercive patterns and manipulative bullshit that has been normalised throughout the tech industry. It changed my approach to building software and should be essential reading for anyone looking to build responsible, human-centred experiences
Develop a broad, working understanding of how the mind works
You’re going to learn the fundamentals of how attention actually works. Instead of exploiting that knowledge, you’re going to learn how to design calmer, more mindful products that tangibly improve people’s lives instead.
You’ll learn about the murky aspects of design too, such as reward and motivation. The difference though, is we’ll cover how more humanist motivation theories can truly change how we see design.
A course that helps developers get good at design and practicing designers get even better
We’re not just learning about the human brain here. Scott also walks through design fundamentals, including Gestalt principles in an extremely easy to understand manner.
The self-paced exercises can either be followed like-for-like or you can take them in your own direction, completely. This serves both developers wanting to learn design and practicing designers alike because those lower in confidence have lots of references to work with, and those with lots of confidence can really push their creative boundaries.
Build your skills at every stage of a design process
This course is absolutely packed with material and exercises designed to install confidence in your craft and to push you further in your career than you ever thought possible.
In the practical unit of the course, you’re going to first, learn how to kick off a project and embark on early-stage research and synthesis.
Then we dig in to how to actually design everything from lo-fi wireframes and thumbnails, right through to finished prototypes. Material includes typesetting, colours, interaction design, inspiration with reference gathering and how to explore unique styles and build taste.
This truly is the practical course you’ve been waiting for
This course is really practical. Not just in the actual practical material, but all of the theory is tied back to practical stuff with multiple design challenges or example-led walkthroughs per module.
Bring your work along to the Discord too where Scott and the other people taking Mindful Design will help you with productive, tangible feedback in an extremely safe, well moderated environment.
You’ll come out of this course with a realistic project; taking it through every phase of a design process, as well as shorter exercises designed to get you working on different types of products. No other course has you applying Gestalt principles to a workplace chat tool a few hours before setting type for a blog post about Shrek…we think, anyway.
The skills learned in this expansive design course will help you in everything you do, both personally, and profesionally.
This course is huge both in volume of content, but also in the quality of education. Many have tried to teach design to those who weren’t lucky enough to get formal training but the way Scott has approached that challenge is completely transformative with clear, inclusive principles. This is transformative education.
If you were lucky enough to get formal training, Scott will fill the inevitable knowledge gaps that traditional education facilities leave too.
It doesn’t matter what your experience levels are now because once you’re done with this course, you’ll be unrecognisable with far better long term career prospects.

Let’s elevate your design skills to a level you never thought was achievable
Scott is one of those rare designers that has extremely high levels of talent — not just in the tangible output of their work, but also in how he understands the mind. Not to mention, their teaching style is up there with the best in the business.
I’m equal parts in awe and absolutely furious that I could never be that good.
The Mindful Design course is an essential resource for anyone who wants to build empathetic, inclusive and just plain good experiences.
It’s become an essential buy for any designer I work with, and should be mandatory for any designer building digital products today.
Scott’s course masterfully bridges the gap between mindfulness and user experience, offering a refreshing perspective on intentional, empathetic design.
He blends theory with actionable insights, such as mindful prototyping and ethical considerations supported by vivid case studies and accessible exercises.

What skills do I need to have?
All you need to succeed course is a genuine interest in and curiously for design. Scott has tuned this content to speak to everyone and our inclusive, safe Discord community is there to support you every step of the way.
What other courses/books have you written?
Scott wrote the Mindful Design book, first and second editions.
How is this different to the Mindful Design book?
The book is in-depth, theoretical and full of useful insights, with a practical twist. But it's also academic and verbose by design. The video-first approach to this course means we get far more practical and visual, far more quickly.
The book is a good companion to the course (and vice versa!), but we've designed the course to bridge many of the gaps you get from a linear, self-led reading experience.
The course also covers more detailed examples and new content, like managing feedback stages and collaboration, deep-dives into design tooling, and a better explanation of just what the heck it means to design autonomous environments. The book was written to make people think; the course is here to help you learn, and to help you craft something you'll love.
Is there a set timeframe to complete the course?
The course is a mostly video course with no set timeframe. You can start whenever you like and pick it up when you have time available. There’s no set cohorts or timelines to work to.
How long does the course take?
The course is made up of nearly 20 hours of video content and around 15-30 hours of self-paced exercises, depending on how deep you want to go with your learning and development.
What’s the refund policy?
We’re confident that you’re going to get a lot of value from this course, but if you are not happy with your purchase within 14 days, please get in touch and we’ll refund your purchase in full.
The price is in GBP, does that mean it’s UK only?
Not at all, it’s for everyone, globally. We charge in GBP because we are a UK-based company. Stripe, our payment processor, will charge you in your local currency.
Do you offer Purchasing Power Parity (PPP)?
If you’re coming in from a supported PPP country, you’ll see a discount code before you check out. If there is a promotion running — for example, a launch discount — we will present the cheapest price for you; either PPP or promotion discount. PPP discounts are applied to the full price of the course.
If you’re coming in from a country that normally receives a PPP discount but we haven’t provided a discount code, please get in touch and our support team will be more than happy to help you out.
Do you offer bulk discounts for companies?
We do indeed! Head over to our company licences page to see our available discounts, order your company licence and see options for more complicated billing needs (don't worry, we get it).
I don’t have a credit or debit card and you use Stripe for payments
You can now use PayPal, directly via Stripe along with various other options. We’ve turned on all the switches but if none of the options work for you, get in touch and we’ll find a way for you.
Can I pay for the course monthly?
We don’t directly have a mechanism for paying for courses in parts, or a monthly subscription, but via Stripe, PayPal will enable you to pay over three months. There’s also options such as Klarna, via Stripe.
