Happy Friday!
It’s been a really interesting period on social media recently. Twitter is — as always — in decline since the takeover, but the decline has accelerated considerably over the past couple of weeks. I know this especially as we’re monitoring a lot of these things because we’re publishing a course very soon.
The increase in both users and momentum has been unbelievable on Bluesky in correlation with Twitter’s decline too. I think this is the source: Kelsey Hightower — a huge name in tech with an enormous following declared they were leaving Twitter on Bluesky which, to be fair to him, did exactly that.
What followed from there were huge waves of Tech Twitter users joining Bluesky and I gotta tell ya, it’s very much good Twitter now. Starter packs I think have been the game changer, moving Tech Twitter to Bluesky. They’re a collection of users and feeds which help you very quickly find and follow people you’re interested in. We made one on the Piccalilli account and loads of others have too, such as Josh. There’s also a great collection of links to starter packs you can check out.
Anyway, I thought I’d just jot this stuff down because if you’re thinking “I can’t lose my followers”, well sorry to tell you, but they’re probably on Bluesky or Mastodon now.
Anyway, let me get another link or two in here. I really enjoyed Jeremy’s run down of how he built the Research By The Sea site for UX Brighton.
Stephanie made this cool site for logging historical sites. It’s really nicely designed.
This site is great if you want to laugh again at when brands lost their mind and made their sites grayscale for some reason when the Queen died.
Finally, here’s a cool demo.
Thanks so much for reading this issue of The Index and lending us your time.
The best way for people to discover this newsletter is if you share it with your friends, so I'd really appreciate it if you did that.
Until the next issue, take it easy 👋
