I saw the title of this post and thought “yeh I know how to do this” but boy are my techniques antiquated.
I’ve historically used extra elements and dodgy flex-basis hacks for overflow content in stackable layouts. Prior to that, it was — like Ryan mentions — absolute positioning hell.
Not only does Ryan show a super clean method of dealing with this sort of overflow context, but also shows some really nice, elegant layout work. Top stuff.
